SepticNest (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect at http://septicnest.com, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have. This policy is governed by the laws of the United States.
1. Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, email address, and message when you use our contact form, leave a comment, or otherwise get in touch.
- Information collected automatically: IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 3 and our Cookie Policy.
2. How we use your information
We use it to operate and improve SepticNest, respond to your messages, moderate comments, understand how the site is used, secure the site against abuse, and serve relevant advertising. We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use essential cookies (site function and security), preference cookies (remembering your settings and consent choices), analytics cookies (see Section 4), and advertising cookies (see Section 5). You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working. Consent for non-essential cookies is managed through our cookie-consent banner, which on this site is provided by the Complianz consent tool.
4. Analytics
If and when we enable web analytics, we intend to use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand aggregate, anonymized usage of the site. GA4 sets cookies and may process your IP address in truncated or anonymized form. You can learn more at Google’s Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and opt out with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). Analytics cookies are only set after you consent through our cookie banner.
5. Advertising, Google AdSense and third-party vendors
SepticNest plans to display advertising through Google AdSense. When advertising is active, the following applies:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies (including the DoubleClick DART cookie) enables Google and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to SepticNest and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at https://www.google.com/settings/ads.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting https://www.aboutads.info/choices/ (US) or https://www.youronlinechoices.eu/ (EU).
- We may also work with other ad networks over time; these third parties have their own privacy policies. A current list of Google’s certified ad-technology providers is available at https://support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903.
6. Server log files
Like most websites, our servers automatically record standard log data (IP address, browser type, ISP, referring and exit pages, and timestamps). This data is not linked to personally identifiable information and is used for aggregate trend analysis, site administration, and security.
7. Children’s privacy (COPPA)
SepticNest is a general-audience site and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact [email protected] and we will delete it. We instruct our ad partners to treat this content as non-child-directed except where flagged otherwise.
8. Your rights under the GDPR (EEA/UK)
If you are in the EEA or UK, our legal bases for processing are: consent (analytics and advertising cookies), legitimate interest (site security and improvement), and contract or legitimate interest (responding to your enquiries). You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, port, and object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these rights, email [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
9. Your rights under the CCPA/CPRA (California)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell your personal information for money; certain advertising-cookie activity may be considered “sharing” under the CCPA, you may opt out via our cookie banner or by emailing [email protected]. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
10. How to opt out (summary)
- Personalized ads: https://www.google.com/settings/ads and https://www.aboutads.info/choices/
- Analytics: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
- All cookies: your browser settings or our consent banner

11. Data retention & security
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described above or as required by law, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect it, though no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
12. Third-party links
Our site links to external websites we do not control. This policy does not apply to them; please review their own privacy policies.
